Where Jesus is Lord , ALL people are precious.

A Brief History of Christ the King

Christ the King Agape Church was established in May 1987 as a new work. At the beginning of July 1987, Timothy Price was appointed the convener of this infant work of the Gospel. We began a group study of the membership materials in Mr. Price's apartment with the intention of establishing Christ the King as a church. Finally in May of 1988, one year after our initial beginning, Christ the King was chartered as a Mission. During our first two years, Christ the King met in a meeting room of the Tiger Hotel in Columbia. When that room was no longer available, we moved to a meeting room in the Days Inn hotel on the west side of Columbia. After a few months a member offered his basement for a location we could use throughout the week for study and fellowship as well as for worship. While in this location, Pastor Timothy Price was licensed as a minister and called as Pastor of our congregation.

In September 1989, we purchased our property at 515 Hickman Avenue. The building was built as a church about 75 years ago by the Church of Christ, and had been in the hands of several different churches throughout it's existence. The very day we closed the sale we began the process of remodeling it to suit our needs.

Over the years, Christ the King has grown to a congregation of around 30 people. We have ministered the Gospel of Jesus Christ to our community through regular Worship, Bible study, Holy Unions, social events, food assistance, and prayer.

In 1995, through the call of God on Pastor Price's heart, we began our foreign mission work Colombia, South America. This work has resulted in Semilla de Amor Comunidad Agape en Gracia, the first church affirming the Gospel of Jesus to Gay and Lesbian people in Colombia.

In April 2005 we celebrated the ordination and installation as Co-Pastors of Rev. Sandy Gilbreth and Rev. Karen Koenig. We pray that God will prosper the work of His Gospel in our community through these two devoted servants of the Lord.

We look forward to new joys and victories in Christ as we begin this new chapter of our lives in the Lord.

We continue to search for ways to minister the Gospel to our community. Our great desire is that in every way we will bring glory to Jesus.
